From 14th to 23rd of April 2011, Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Andalucía, Spain

Training Course about using poetry as a method for social inclusion of youth
with cultural integration problems.

Who we are:

The host organization, Círculo Poético RefleXos, is a youth poetry club with an international membership, including Spain, Portugal, Great Britain, Romania, Russia, Mexico, Brazil and Argentina. Our members meet regularly in the cultural space Espacio Niram in the centre of Madrid, to discuss their latest works, propose them for publication in our partner magazines or for entry in a range of poetry contests. Periodically, the best texts are proposed for publication in a collective book by our partner publishing house. Since we belong to the Cultural Institute “Constantin Brancusi” in Madrid, our activities and events are often organized in collaboration with artists from other fields of activity, such as photography, vocal and instrumental music of all genres, painting, sculpture, etc.

The principal aim of “Círculo Poético RefleXos” is the support and promotion of young writers with fewer opportunities, by offering technical and practical support in their writing, as well as publication and promotion in the public realm. Our international membership is proof of our strive to promote creative thinking, intercultural values and dialogue through art and culture, with a particular focus on young poetry.

About the Project

Training Course about using poetry as a method for social inclusion of youth
with cultural integration problems.

The main goal of our training course “Poetry Adventure“ is to improve participants’ knowledge, attitudes, competences and skills in youth work by using poetry as a method for social inclusion of young people with cultural differences – youth with cultural inclusion problems. This educational learning programme will improve the quality of practice in youth work in a general context. Particular focus will be given to Youth in Action projects as a means of promoting poetry as a cultural inclusion method.

Using poetical expression and non-formal educational tools, participants will be able to multiply the skills and techniques acquired during this TC in their everyday work with youth with cultural inclusion problems.

Activities comprised by this Training Course include: work on individual and group poetic expression, presentations and analysis of poems, creating poetry, discovering nature and the local cultural environment as a source of inspiration and different poetry games.

The target group of this training course comprises all people actively involved in the work with young people with cultural differences – youth with cultural inclusion problems, such as young poets, young immigrants or refugees, descendants from immigrant or refugee families, young people belonging to a national or ethnic minority, young people with linguistic adaptation problems and in general young people with cultural inclusion problems(youth workers, youth leaders, play workers, NGO activists, school teachers, social workers).

(We would like to have participants with background in poetry writing or creative writing)
